KBRA’s affirmation of the ratings reflects Germany’s large, diversified, and globally important economy, strong governance, and healthy public finances. Key credit considerations include its significant fiscal capacity, financial flexibility, robust institutional framework and extremely strong access to liquidity. Germany faces a period of weak near-term growth alongside heightened geopolitical and trade tensions, including the impact of higher US tariffs and continued structural pressures on its industrial base. At the same time, the government has adopted a more expansionary fiscal strategy, centred on higher defence and public investment, which should support domestic demand and if effectively implemented, strengthen medium-term growth potential. In KBRA’s view, Germany’s strong external position, benchmark capital markets and fiscal capacity provide substantial buffers as it navigates this period of structural and geopolitical change.
