Incorporated in 2004 as a Maryland corporation, MidCap Financial Investment Corporation (NASDAQ: MFIC) (“the company”) is a closed-end, externally managed business development company (“BDC ”) that provides capital primarily in the form of senior secured first lien loans, largely to middle-market companies in the U.S. The company had a recent market capitalization of $883 million. MFIC has elected to be treated, and intends to qualify annually, as a regulated investment company (“RIC”) for federal tax purposes.
The company is externally managed by Apollo Investment Management Inc., an affiliate of Apollo Global Management, Inc. (“AGM”), which is a global investment manager. AGM has 5,500+ global employees and $1 trillion in AUM, including $785 billion in credit related AUM. MidCap Financial (“MidCap”) has $62+ billion in middle market direct lending AUM and has its own investment team of 300+ professionals in 12 global offices.
